Marabana Havana Marathon

The Marabana Havana marathon has been run each year since the late 1980’s. The event always takes place in Havana, Cuba on the 3rd Sunday of November, the weekend before the US Thanksgiving holiday that following Thursday.

Elite runners and amateurs, masters and special athletes all compete in a choice of three different race lengths:

Full 42 kilometer marathon

Half marathon of 21 kilometers

10 kilometer fun run

The race course begins and ends between Central Park and the Cuba Capitol Building. The first stretch of the race runs along the newly renamed Paseo de Martí to Castle San Salvador and the entrance into the Bay of Havana.

Where the sidewalk ends you'll turn left and run the entire length of the 5-mile-long Malecón (Havana's Northern seawall).

You'll reach the Río Almendares and turn into town passing Cemetery Cristóbal Colón (the Carribean's largest necropolis) and the zoo.

Then, you'll circle the famous Ciudad Deportiva (City of Athletics) where the Rolling Stones played in 2016.

Keep going past the José Martí Memorial and the Plaza de la Revolución at the highest point in town then it's all downhill back to the finish line!

Runner and watchers will arrive a couple days early to orientate themselves to the capital and the race course and stay at least a day after to recover and relax before heading home.

Arrive on Friday before your Sunday race. We'll meet you at the airport and transfer you into town to your bed and breakfast style boutique hotel. Time permitting you'll load up into classic American cars for a rolling tour of the route of the race as well as some additional iconic points in Cuba's capital city.

On Saturday you'll enjoy a healthy home-cooked breakfast before GoodTrip guides lead you to the MaraCuba 3k which is a social race that takes place simoultaneously all over the island of Cuba. This race before the race is the definition of a fun run as less serious athlete locals and even children run and walk their way through Old Havana. After the rally you can participate in the post-race parade and music.

After lunch, GoodTrip guides will lead you on a walking tour of Old Havana. Saturday afternoon you'll get a chance to regroup and refresh at your accommodations before enjoying an early group dinner nearby to where you're staying.

Sunday, the day of the race, get a good bite to eat before heading to the starting line and running your race! The rest of the afternoon is open for you to recover and/or do a little exploring on your own. We recommend making mental notes of some of the sights you'll see on your run and going back there once you've cleaned up.

Sunday night the group will dine together and invite some of our Cuban friends who will also have competed in the race along side you. Say goodbye to those who depart tomorrow.

Monday will be a departure day for some while others will opt to hang around for an additional few days. Optional extensions include beach time at Playa Las Estes along Cuba's North Coast where you can convalesce on white sands with blue water waves, and an excursion West to Las Terrazas and Soroa to explore Cuba's tropical hill country.

All of our itineraries are all-inclusive which means:

Transport, Accommodations, Meals (except lunch on race day), Race registration, an English-speaking guide, Entrance fees and equipment rental, and a Personal mini water filter
